Tic Disorder Treatment: The Magic Pill

Tic Disorder Treatment: The Magic Pill

A “Magic Pill”- To Be or Not To Be?

Let’s play a game. I’ll name an ailment, you think of the “magic pill” that takes care of it. Headache. Heartburn, Diarrhea, Dry Eyes, Allergies, Motion Sickness, Backache, Upset Stomach, Nausea, Sore Throat.

Did you think: Tylenol, Tums/Nexium, Imodium, Visine, Benadryl, Dramamine, Ibuprofen, Pepto Bismol, Zofran, Halls. I bet you have at least 7/10 of these medicines in your home stash “just in case.” We are taught and programmed that each ailment has a “magic pill”. Just wait 15-20 minutes and your symptoms disappear, right?

Have you ever considered what is actually happening in your body when you take a “magic pill” on a regular basis for chronic concerns?

Here’s a question for you: If every time you tried to speak, an imaginary hand covered your mouth and muffled what you were trying to say, would you be able to speak clearly? Would you perhaps then start to wave your arms or make hand motions to get someone’s attention? Maybe jump up and down a little? You would probably get progressively more obnoxious trying to communicate what you wanted to say.

This is what your body will do. Symptoms will progress and get more and more obnoxious.

You might be an outwardly healthy-looking individual, but lurking beneath the surface are infections, imbalances, and deficiencies that have to be settled and dealt with before you will feel better, for good.

If your body has chronic symptoms- for example, heartburn or an upset stomach, and each time you experience them, you swallow a pill, what is that doing? It is masking a symptom that is signaling a greater problem. The underlying problem actually escapes getting resolved to allow whatever it is to continue to wreak havoc within your body.

Are you solving the problem? Do you know WHY you have heartburn or an upset stomach?

No. You are covering the symptoms. Brace yourself for the cold hard truth: the pill is NOT magic. It’s just the temporary relief to a persistent problem– that is- until you get to the ROOT CAUSE and resolve it. The problem doesn’t have to be permanent, but right now, you don’t have a clue what’s happening under the surface. It’s hard to figure out which path to take when you don’t have a map.

This is a tough concept (looking at data to see what’s happening for real) for a lot of people that come our way. It is really hard to undo years and even a lifetime of being taught and programmed to expect a “magic pill” (or quick fix) l for every ailment. It is unexpectedly difficult to make peace with the idea that the body has symptoms for a reason that can’t always be extinguished in a matter of minutes or hours. Gut health, for example, can sometimes take 6 months to a year to heal even if you are doing everything right (Note: Our clients usually see results well before these time frames because of the unique protocols we design specifically for their individual bodies.). Chronic inflammation can take on many forms, resulting in misdiagnosis of a variety of diseases.

Tics are extremely complex. Most of the time there is not just one root cause, but many. We work with clients to evaluate all of the body systems that play a part in tic disorders and other symptoms they are experiencing. Many of our clients come to us with ADHD, OCD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, and more. All of these diagnoses come with their own slews of symptoms- many of which can be completely eliminated by helping the body heal naturally and reestablish balance.  Managing tic disorders naturally involves addressing the underlying imbalances in the body, such as nutritional deficiencies, gut health, and neuroinflammation. By using a holistic approach, we can help our clients reduce their tics and other symptoms without relying on medications or invasive treatments. Our goal is to empower our clients to take control of their health and find lasting relief from their tic disorders. By addressing the root causes of these various conditions, we are able to significantly reduce or even eliminate tic disorder symptoms. It takes a trained eye to be able to connect the dots and draw conclusions about which aspects of each test are relevant. Sometimes one test on its own doesn’t look that bad, but upon review in combination with the other tests we run, we can see missing pieces, deficiencies, imbalances, or underlying infections that have been disguised or hiding under the surface. Multiple body systems are at play and if you have a myriad of specialists trying to focus on only one at a time, you are probably spinning your wheels and missing important details.

A whole body, natural approach using functional lab testing to identify the root causes is the key to eliminating tic disorder and other persistent symptoms.
